PD Dr. med. Udo Meinhardt

1968 I was born and grew up in Biberist (Switzerland). After I finished High School in Solothurn, I decided not to study Mechanical engineering at the ETH as scheduled but to study medicine at the university in Berne. I wrote my doctoral thesis in 1995 about the formation of kidney stones. After my intern years in Visp, Biel and Lausanne I became paediatrician and there upon I specialized as senior resident in children’s endocrinology and diabetology at the Inselspital in Berne by Prof. Primus Mullis. After another specialization in sports medicine I worked supported by Swiss National Foundation from 2004 to 2006 in Sydney at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in clinical research on topics like anti-doping, hormonal regulation of muscle-, fat- and bone mass as well as physical performance. This was the basis for my state doctorate at the university of Berne in 2015, where I have been lecturing since then. After doing research in Australia I worked at the Center for Pediatric Endocrinology Zurich for almost 12 years, before opening my own practice specialised in paediatric endocrinology and diabetology in 2018.

The independence and interconnectedness of families of children and adolescents with chronic diseases are very important to me, that’s why I have been involved in the Swiss Prader-Willi-Syndrome Society and Swiss Diabetes Kids for many years. Besides this work in parents’ associations, I am in the managing-committee of the Swiss Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology (SGPED) and member of the Swiss Society for Endocrinology and Diabetology (SGED) tariff working group.

I am married and we have three children. In my free time I mainly enjoy the nature on the bicycle, on foot or on skis.
